The Other Good News

Since the real good news is that God loves you, sent His son Jesus to this earth to die on a cross for all of our sins, raised Him from the dead, and is now living inside those who choose to follow and love Him...I'll share with you the other good news. The good news I got last week from my doctor in Lincoln!

The trip this month felt more like a vacation than any of the others. On the way to Nebraska we stopped for a nice long lunch with one of my roommates from college and her family. I love this family to pieces and it was so much fun to catch up!

We drove down on a Sunday, but didn't see Dr. Sara until Tuesday morning. That left Monday free to visit the local book store (which just so happened to be holding Ted Dekker's newest book Hacker for me). In the late afternoon and evening we got to see more friends. Two years ago mom and dad and I took and trip to Wichita, Kansas to look at an old pickup truck some friends had. While there we met their granddaughter Bri. Well, Bri has been asking about us, so they brought her along and came to Lincoln to visit us! It was fun to see them and hang out with Bri again. She's 8 now and a very special little girl. Please be praying for her, she's in the middle of a very difficult situation and could use all the prayers she can get right now. Bri is the one who introduced us to Orange Leaf, the delicious frozen yogurt store. Lincoln has something similar called Yogurtini so we had to go there for dessert Monday night!

Tuesday morning they went home and we went to the doctor. We saw Sara and had treatments in the morning. We were surprised to have the whole afternoon free so we took advantage. We went to an area we'd heard a lot of good things about, the Haymarket area. My first thought was I felt like I was overseas somewhere. Something about it had the smell of an international locale. Maybe it's just a downtown big city smell :-) Anyway, I was in official vacation mode as we strolled the streets looking for a few certain shops. We found the first one immediately. Licorice International. I think my dad was in heaven on earth! It was a great store and dad and I even found the licorice we've been looking for for a couple of years. I have a strong feeling we will be going back to this store in the future! We also found a store called Ten Thousand Villages. They sell fair trade items from all over the world. This store definitely added to my "I'm on a vacation overseas" feel!

After our trip downtown we realized we still had time to go to the children's zoo. This was a blast. It was a great little zoo in downtown Lincoln that had a train and everything. Yes, I did make my parents take me on the train (see picture above)! Mom got to pet goats, we saw a ginormous eagle's nest (who knew those were so big?!), and the best part is we were there during penguin feeding time! This was quite entertaining :-)

Wednesday morning we went in for treatments. Sara met us there with her daughter and her over 9 pound preemie. (Pretty sure they guessed the due date wrong on that one!) Technically she's still on maternity leave, but she was kind enough to stop in and see us while we were there. It's a family run business and we've all become one large happy family. What a special blessing!

So, the good news you've been waiting for...this is it! Thank you for indulging in my travelog to get to this point :-) This trip marked a year that we've been seeing Sara so I asked her how much longer she thinks I have. She said that in six months I can start maintenance! This is incredible! Starting maintenance means that I'll only have to see her every 3-4 months instead of every month. It means that I'm getting better. Significantly better! In fact, she said we could probably start maintenance now, but she's going to be greedy and keep seeing me every month for a while yet. I will still have bad days (like today, where I am tired, nauseous, feverish, and just feel sick) but they will last one or two weeks at a time (at the most) instead of a month. I should also start having a longer stretch of good days between the bad, and the good days should keep getting better. Great new, friends, great news! Oh, and she said I can get a dog in 3-6 months if I want. Yay!

Thank you for celebrating with me. Please keep praying for continued healing and especially for the ability to handle the bad days. Because I'm experiencing better days, the bad ones seem so much worse. But the good days, oh, those days are so sweet!
