Fatigue, Blood Clot & Thanksgiving

Hello friends,

I seem to be going through a strange sort of a flare that is making me incredibly exhausted. I'm not sure how to explain how tired and weak I've been feeling. There were a couple of days last week where it literally took me a couple of hours to work up enough energy to get out of bed. I think things are getting better. I was able to go to work today and go with my roommates to get groceries so I'm praying that means things are looking up in the "fatigued" department!

I'm also starting a new medication as a migraine preventative. Two weeks ago today I was in urgent care after a three day migraine that just wouldn't go away. The nurses had a terrible time trying to get the IV in. Yes, I say nurses because it took three of them. Finally the third nurse got it in on her second try. I got the meds I needed through the IV to get over the migraine and after almost eight hours in urgent care I got to go home. The new medication I'm taking makes me very dizzy and, strangely, makes the side effects of another medication I'm taking worse. It will take me a month to build up to full dosage. I am praying that once my body gets used to the level of medication I will be taking that the side effects will cease.

Today marks two weeks since I was in urgent care with the IV debacle of 2012. Today I quite suddenly developed a blood clot in my hand. It is in the same vein that the IV was finally placed in, just a little lower than the greenish/black bruise that still graces the back of my hand. It is quite painful, especially if I bend my wrist. Thanks to a dear friend that just so happens to be a nurse who does house calls 'cuz she loves me, I now know that I need to put heat on it and if that doesn't work to put ice on it. If it's still there tomorrow I need to go in and get it checked out. If it develops red lines it is a sign of infection. An infection would not be good and I would need to go in right away.

All this said, this is how I would like you to pray for me:

1) Pray that whatever strange flare I am having would end and that I would have strength and energy to do the things that God has for me to do each day. My dear friend Elizabeth and her family will be visiting me Nov. 25-29 and our good friend Cori and her family will be joining us Nov. 25-26. Elizabeth, Cori and I were all roommates at Crown and I can't tell you how excited we all are to get together. I will be meeting 4 new kids and having so much fun. Please, please, please pray that my body cooperates this week and that we can all have a wonderful time together!

2) Pray that my body would adjust to the new medication I am on that the side effects would quickly lessen. They are obnoxious and annoying to say the least!

3) Pray that this blood clot in my hand would be gone by morning, pray that there would be no infection and pray that if something does need to be done that doctors would know what, when and how.

4) Lastly please pray for my friend Erin at Broken but Priceless Ministries. She is waiting to hear back from her doctor on a CT Scan that she had last week. They are trying to find the root cause of inflammation in her lungs and get her healed of an infection that she has had since February. This is pretty serious business and I know she would appreciate your prayers as well.

I pray that you all have a wonderful time of Thanksgiving with family and friends. After reading the above you may not think that I have all that much to be thankful for but you would be wrong. I am thankful for many things. Just to name a few...

-my family and the time we have been able to spend together this year
-the ways my brother and I have grown closer this year
-I am alive
-my wonderful roommates and cozy apartment close to work
-a job that is flexible with people who love me
-the ways God has used me that I never began to imagine
-how God introduced me to Erin and Broken but Priceless Ministries
-our mini-roommate reunion next week
-that my relationship with the Lord is more intimate that it was last year
-I am more like Jesus now than I was last year
-I am thankful for you!
